Hi all! It’s been a while since I’ve had any tutorials, articles, or posts in general. This is due to my workload at universities and work. But! Now the situation has begun to ease, so here is a small and simple, but interesting and beautiful tutorial. In it we will create the effect of volumetric refracted light.
Step 1.
First, let’s create the source of our caustics, it can be an object of absolutely any shape, but for simplicity I will use "V-Ray Sphere".
Step 2.
Let’s apply a standard V-Ray material with the following parameters to our object, in my case a sphere:
Step 3.
Let’s add a standard light source to the scene, for example "Target Spot", in the group "Shadows" select from the drop-down list "VRayShadow", in a scroll "Intensity/Color/Attenuation" install "Multiplier" equal ‘30000’, in the group "Decay" set the type "Type" on "Inverse Square", and also change the value "Start" on ‘1’.
Step 4.
In the visualization settings, enable caustics https://ukcryptocasinos.co.uk/review/aztec-paradise/ calculation and change its parameters to the following:
Just as you can see from the screenshot above, I added to the scene "VRrayPlane" to see the result of our caustics calculation.
Step 5.
Now you can visualize the scene to see the preliminary result:
Step 6.
In order to give the light beam volume, we need to add a little fog to the scene. To do this, we will create a contour in which we will place our fog “Create -> Helpers -> Atmospheric Apparatus -> BoxGizmo”.
Step 7.
Let’s open the menu "Environment" pressing "8", click on the button "Add" in a scroll "Atmosphere", select from the proposed list of effects "VRayEnvironmentFog" and change its parameters according to the figure below:
Step 8.
Here we have the final result!

Eh, I wish I could find DreamScape lessons somewhere, I googled and googled, but I can’t find what I need, although I still need it as a sky))), but maybe the rest will be useful.
DreamScape is simpler and more realistic IMHO).So, damn it)) I forgot to write what I need for it (I already figured out the sky)., lesson on creating mountains, I saw on the screenshots that the mountains actually look like candy. But I’m not very good yet.
If the beam were green, then the whole thing would look like the Death Star and the planet it destroys. (or maybe it’s all my wild imagination)
